Time … the Precious Resource

Last night (after the Dallas Cowboys beat the Green Bay Packers) I was making a list of things that I’d like to get done before Thanksgiving. Sure, a couple of things on the list will require some money but more than anything they will require time (such as go look for a ceiling fan, take the kids pictures for the annual Christmas card, make the annual Christmas calendar, schedule a visit with my half-sister and 92 year old grandfather who live 3 hours away, etc.).

Then I started thinking about the importance of time and wondering what the definition of time is. It’s probably something simple like a unit of measurement defined by seconds, minutes, days, months, years and so forth. But isn’t time so much more precious and valuable than that? Then I started thinking about the song Time by Hootie and the Blow Fish. That song drives me crazy but there it was. Isn’t the mind of an ADHD person a beautiful thing?  Or a beautifully annoying thing LOL?  Back to time…

We can lose weight and then gain it back, we can lose our wealth and then gain it back, we can lose relationships apart from death and then gain them back, but we can never, ever, ever gain back time once it is gone. It is a non-renewable, non-recyclable and non-refundable precious resource. The older I get, the faster time goes by and the more I value it.

What is your time worth to you? If you had all of the time in the world to do whatever you wanted, what would you do? What things are worth your time? Who is worth your time? Who needs or deserves more of your time?

We can’t get it back once it’s gone y’all. So let’s value it a little more shall we?
