It’s Still the New Year (Life List Edition)

Happy New Year! Yes still. We might as well celebrate as long as possible 🙂

Yesterday I listened to a really great sermon while I was getting ready for work. I was not able to take notes because I can’t apply mascara, blow dry my hair, and write.  I’m pretty talented but not that talented.  The sermon was so good that I was certain I’d be able to blog it from memory. Well …. I’ve slept since then so that’s not going to happen. It said something about something and I remembered really loving it and that’s about all I remember. Darn the ADD. I’ll listen to it again later LOL.

In other news, my Champagne Friend really spoiled me last weekend at my Fab 40 Birthday Bash. She also encouraged me in a way I never thought possible. She gave me a gift card to the Buckle that’s designated for a pair of Rock Revival jeans. No other jeans are allowed. If that’s not encouragement to start back at the gym, I don’t know what is!!! She said, “I know you. You’ll say but I can have 2 Miss Me’s for that price, or I can have 3 BKE’s for that price. You’ll never spend that much money on a pair of jeans.” And you know what, she’s RIGHT! Shoes or purses, sure. But not jeans. So she spent HER money on me those jeans. I can’t believe it. I’m so excited it’s ridiculous. Who knew one pair of jeans could make a girl so happy? So now I’m super serious about getting this “secretary 20” off (similar to the freshman 10 haha). I even weighed to get a starting point and I don’t even believe in scales (they are mean bullies that don’t reflect the total person so they don’t belong in my life LOL). And as soon as this extra 20 lbs of fluff is gone (hopefully sooner than later), I’m totally going to sport those jeans. Thanks Champagne Friend!  And thanks to my other fabulous, favorite ladies (ok couples) who spent the weekend with us.

Another Fab 40 lesson that I learned about that I must share is the Life List Challenge. When the Power Ball was going around so many people were talking about what they would do with all that money. Other articles went around talking about “if you were generous before, you’ll be even more generous. If you weren’t before, you won’t be now. If you were a hard worker before you’ll still be a hard worker. If not, you’ll just become even more lazy.” People also shared their Bucket Lists and talked about doing all of the things they would want to do before they died. I’m not allowed to say “Bucket List”. Well, I am but I don’t because … We were sitting with a couple friend of ours recently discussing my Bucket List and the husband just went into rambling nut job mode. He said “I hate the term Bucket List because it makes it sound like we live to die rather than live to live. We all need Life Lists instead. Things that we want to accomplish in our lives.” So, Life List it is.

If I were diagnosed with a terminal illness tomorrow, I would NOT regret skipping law school or missing that move to Austin or DC for work. I would regret allowing people who in the scheme of things really don’t matter to stress me out, the travels that I missed, family time I took for granted, money that I wasted on purses (I know right, I can’t believe I said that one) that could have paid for a trip to Napa Valley or New York City, allowing my schedule to get so busy that I didn’t plan enough weekend staycations, etc. So, I want to spend more time trying different restaurants, singing (albeit poorly) loudly with my friends, dancing like no one is watching (hello hip hop abs) and seeing as many parts of the ocean as possible.

From Ecclesiastes: “So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.” 8:15. “So go ahead. Eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this! Wear fine clothes with a splash of cologne!” 9:7-8 NLT.

The perfect work life balance. “Work hard. Play harder.”

So, what’s on YOUR Life List?
