2013 A Year of Unity

Last night we attended Covenant Colleyville’s New Year’s Eve service and Pastor Ricky declared 2013 as a year of unity.  As parents, we smile and have great joy when our children are playing together and getting along. God wants that same unity among his children. Strive to get on the same page with your spouse, children, family, employers and strive to have unity in your relationships.

1 Cor 1:10 – Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Phil 2:1-4 Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

What is our purpose? What are we to be unified in doing? Adding converts, making disciples, training leaders and planting churches.

What prevents unity? What promotes unity?

Pride v. Humility
Selfishness v. Sacrifice
Control v. Trust

(That trust part is HUGE. Select your spiritual authority prayerfully and carefully just like you would your spouse!)

Man will make many plans but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. Pro 19:21.

(This topic also reminded me of the book of Jude which outlines who creates division at verses 17-19; how we are to handle disputes if we are sinned against at Matt 18:15; and how to help instruct others who oppose truth at 2 Tim 2:25; Eph 4:14-15.)

Unity in 2013!
